Second Assassination Attempt on Former President Trump

Dr. Jeff Bloodworth, Erie News Now political contributor, reacting to the second assassination attempt on former President Trump, said it is time to turn down the political temperature.

"2024 is the craziest, most turbulent, year in politics since 1968 when Gerald Ford has two assassination attempts on him within a few weeks of each other and it is a part of American political life that we have been lucky that we have not seen for the last few decades and hopefully this will not repeat itself," Bloodworth said.

"Both sides you would hope would turn it down but for former President Trump this is part of his political calculation, he turns up the heat because he knows that is what helps to move his voters and gain him attention, this is not excusing political violence in any way but it has sadly become a part of mainstream politics in the last 10 years," he said.

How does the country go about turning down the rhetoric?

Bloodworth said the power is in the hands of the American people.

"Do not click on the story that makes you mad, do not listen to the podcasts that make your veins pop but sadly this is what works and the assassination attempts are a sad byproduct but the American people have control over stopping this.

Start imbibing in media that has a moderate temperature and tone and pay attention to political candidates on both sides who do not raise the political temperature," he said.
