The play starts with a snap, then one athlete passes the ball and finally, one flag football player runs it all the way down to the end zone. The girls playing in this MYAA flag football league said the best parts of the sport are the people and getting a touchdown.

“Getting to be with my teammates and get to run and make a touch down and just that good feeling about it. . .It feels good, because then it feels like you have all the power,” one of the flag football athletes in the MYAA league Charlotte Potosnak said.

This team is the first all-girls division for MYAA.

“We’ve been doing flag football for 8 years now, and it's been co-ed team until this year. We decided to put in an all girls division: third through fifth grade,” Director of Football for MYAA Mark Harris said.

The MYAA league partnered the women's flag football team the RivALZ  to connect.

"So MYAA reached out because this year they have a flag football league for girls. We as the RivALZ have been a women's flag football team, and we’re going into our 9ninth year here in Erie. So, we’re partnering together to just promote women's flag football in Erie, Pa,”  Team Captain for the RivALZ Jessica Sambuchino said.

Sambuchino said  it's a great experience help foster interest in the sport.

“We're excited because our team is comprised of about 70 women, ages 21 and up. So being able to work with the young girls, kind of building that love for football and that leadership with our young community here in Erie,” Sambuchino said.
