Work is continuing on the first business in the Savocchio Opportunity Park. It’s at the corner of East 18th Street and Downing Avenue in Erie.
Grow Erie will be a greenhouse facility that will grow vegetables for businesses. It will be about 17 thousand square feet.
It is owned by a group of Erie nonprofits called the Minority Community Investment Coalition.
“Proprietary” technology will ensure production throughout the year, said James Sherrod of the coalition.
They plan to hire between 10 and 15 employees. A community greenhouse will be built across the street. Sherrod expects additional development in the area, soon.
The goal is to open Grow Erie in January.
