The Warren County School District held another board meeting on September 23rd, and tensions ran high once more.

Both in person and online, parents voiced their concerns as the district plans for an upcoming public hearing regarding the possible closure of Sheffield Middle High School and consolidation of Youngsville school students.

It was a full house at the latest school board meeting, where parents are seeking answers ahead of the public hearing on October 2nd.

The big issue on the agenda was the possible closure of Sheffield Middle High School and the consolidation of students from Youngsville.

Many parents expressed their worries about what these changes could mean for their children, with a strong emphasis on safety concerns. Harold Dunkle, a Pittsfield resident, stated, “The biggest thing about these kids is safety. I don’t care what kind of money is on the table, to me safety is worth more than any money out there. They are looking to close down a school that is close to first responders and move these kids to a school that takes the responders longer to get to.”

Dr. Wendy Doneyhue, a Youngsville resident, added, “I am concerned about the commute times and the cost for the bussing. I'm concerned about what may happen to the community.”

Parents also raised concerns over staffing, questioning where teachers from Sheffield and Youngsville would be placed if the schools close. The superintendent and board listened to these concerns, assuring parents that they are doing their best to be fully transparent. They also announced that a full FAQ section will be posted on the district’s website this week for anyone seeking more information.

Debates over the possible closure of Sheffield Middle High School and the consolidation of Youngsville will continue at the public hearing in October.

The public hearing is set for October 2nd and will be held at Warren Area High School’s auditorium, where the district will continue to address these concerns and outline the potential impacts of the changes.
