Millcreek Township, City of Meadville Fire Departments Awarded SAFER Grant to Hire Firefighters

The Millcreek Township Fire Department was awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. 

The grant, totaling $5,425,878, is one of two awarded in Pennsylvania for the hiring of firefighters. The fire department says the grant will enable Millcreek Township to hire 15 full-time firefighters. 

"This grant is a major step forward in our efforts to enhance public safety and provide 24-hour coverage to the residents of Millcreek Township," said Chief Michael Cliff. "With this funding, we are significantly increasing our firefighting capacity, ensuring that we meet national standards for fire protection."

Additionally, the City of Meadville Fire Department was awarded $1,031,576.

"This SAFER grant brings a vital boost to our department. It enhances our ability to respond more effectively to emergencies and strengthens our overall capacity to safeguard the residents of Meadville. This funding is a critical step in securing the well-being of our community," said Fire Chief Evan Kardosh.
