Erie's Public Schools Superintendent Brian Polito Announces Plans to Retire Next Summer

Brian Polito, the Superintendent of Erie's Public Schools, has announced his plans to retire, effective June 30, 2025.

In a message shared with district staff, Polito said, "I have been incredibly honored to serve as superintendent of Erie’s Public Schools during these last eight years. Together we’ve faced unprecedented challenges, including a pandemic that forced us to reimagine every aspect of our work, and also celebrated great successes: Our district has evolved from one that was mired in crisis to one that is receiving state and national recognition for its turnaround efforts and innovative programs. That transformation would not have happened without each one of you who work tirelessly to support our families and students. Thank you for the trust you’ve shown in me and our leadership team, and for the dedication and passion you bring to your job every day. Your work has been inspiring to witness..."

The school board is expected to accept Polito's letter of intent at a special board meeting prior to the Committee of the Whole meeting on Wednesday, October 2.

The board of Governance Committee will recommend a firm to lead a nationwide search for Polito's successor during the meeting.

The full board is expected to vote on a firm at its October 9 meeting.
