"I mean it is definitely right up there in probably the top 10 worst environments that I've been in for animals," Ruth Thompson, Founder and Director of the ANNA Shelter said.

After a phone call from Pennsylvania State Police around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, the ANNA Shelter went to the location of the mistreated pets early Wednesday morning. Once on the scene Thompson said there were only five dogs inside the home, while the rest were left outside.

"Even the ones that were loose outside at least they could forge they could kind of look for what they could eat," Thompson said. "There were a lot of dead rats, I'm guessing they were consuming those as they could."

The newly saved pets will not be available for visits or adoptions until sometime next week.
