A New York couple is facing multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of children, following a police chase that ended in a serious crash Saturday. September 28th in Warren County.

Nathan and Rebekah Klein, of Sinclairville, New York, are now in jail after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase that resulted in a major crash.

The incident began Saturday evening around 6:30 PM when Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a robbery at a convenience store. The employee was reportedly threatened with a bat. During the confrontation, deputies were assaulted, and one had their body camera stolen.

The Kleins fled the scene, leading deputies across state lines into Pennsylvania. They were initially pulled over near Walmart in North Warren but fled again, prompting another chase along Route 62. The pursuit ended when their vehicle crashed into a patrol car near the Conewango Country Club.

Upon their arrest, officers discovered three children in the vehicle: a 6-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, and a 1-year-old girl.

“The children were taken immediately from the scene since there was a crash involved, and they were taken to Warren General Hospital where they were evaluated,” said Captain Kirk Reese, Commanding Officer of the Pennsylvania State Police. “They were released to the immediate care and custody of Warren County Children and Youth Services.”

Reports indicate that both Nathan and Rebekah Klein resisted arrest during the confrontation. Allegedly, Rebekah struck an officer with a wooden sword while resisting.

Thanks to the quick response from the Pennsylvania State Police, the public was kept safe from what could have been a dangerous situation.

“The troopers did a wonderful job not only quickly locating the suspects but then safely taking them off the road where there were no serious injuries and absolutely no injuries to the innocent motoring public that were out there,” Reese added.

The Pennsylvania state troopers involved in the incident were treated and released with minor injuries. There has been no word on the condition of the deputies in New York.

Nathan and Rebekah Klein are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 2nd in Warren County. After the hearing, they are expected to be extradited to Chautauqua County to face additional charges related to the initial incident.
