Former President Jerry Carter celebrated 100 years with family in Plains, Georgia, where he's been receiving hospice care for over a year. Carter is known for his work with Habitat Humanity with his late wife Rosalynn.

He’s also known for his human rights and social welfare campaign that helped him win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Influential religious leader and advocate for human rights, peace, and women's issues. Chittister says that it's a wonderful thing to see Former President Carter reach this milestone and that in his lifetime he's shown generosity, and to be spiritually healthy.

Sister Joan Chittister said that, especially when the political climate is heated, Carter is a model for political leadership.

“He was every bit of that. He was a military man, who did not want to go to war and didn't want to get us in war. He was a political man who the Greeks and the Romans would have looked at. The brilliant, intelligent, spiritual way, to make the country everything it could be,” Chittister said.
