GECAC Offers New Adult Programs

GECAC announced a new partnership with the Erie County Community College, where students can now take courses at the community college on their west side location.

Classes at GECAC never slow down, especially when it comes to their GED programs. Beth Terp, the Program Manager for the Adult Education Programs at GECAC said, "Erie County has about 20,000 residents who are lacking a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Those are our most popular classes because there is such a need."

Diana Price is an example of one of many people who got her GED and thus a career thanks to GECAC. According to Price, "I was able to go and take some classes and get my CDL. I was able to get a job, it was a little difficult at first, but I was able to get a team job with my husband and I will be coming up on a year in November with my CDL."

She credits her success to the instructors at GECAC especially Pam Reynolds. As Price described, "She actually encouraged everything. She didn't want me to give up whatsoever."

Reynolds has been teaching at GECAC for almost five years and said she loves seeing her students start new adventures once they leave the classroom. "It's very rewarding to know that I have helped them in some small way or not small way. Some of our graduates have said if it wasn't for me or the GECAC program, they don't know where they would be", said Reynolds.

She said whether it's in person or virtual teaching students basic brings her joy and fulfillment "Our purpose is helping people, changing lives, and I'm just grateful to be able to help and make a difference", said Reynolds.

GECAC courses are constantly happening, if you have any questions or want to take a GED course or another adults skills course you can reach out to them at 814-459-4581.
