The motion to move the trial for the man charged in the on-stage stabbing of author Salman Rushdie at western New York's Chautauqua Institution more than two years ago has been denied.

Police charged then 24-year-old Hadi Matar with attempted murder after the attack that left the Satanic Verses author blind in one eye.

Jury selection was supposed to start Tuesday, but it was delayed after the defense requested the trial to be moved to another county.

A new date for the trail has not yet been set.

Matar remains behind bars without bond.
