Man Charged with Assaulting Sports Referee at Meadville Junior Varsity Football Game

Police charged a man with assaulting a sports referee at a Meadville junior varsity football game Thursday, according to a news release.

Brandon Teed, 34, faces charges for assault on a sports official and harassment.

Officers were called for the assault at Bender Field around 5:40 p.m.

One of the referees said he was tackled to the pavement and suffered minor injuries, according to police.

The PIAA released the following statement about the incident: 

"It has been brought to our attention of an assault on a PIAA Sports Official after a junior high football game in District X. PIAA does not condone any such acts. We will pursue this case to the fullest extent of the law. Thankfully, the PIAA Official that was attacked is doing fine and in good spirits. 

PIAA will not tolerate abuse on PIAA Sports Officials. Thank you to all that came to the assistance of the official after this occurrence."
