The need for more affordable housing is an issue in this presidential election. The founder and president of Strong Towns, Charles Marohn, is in Erie to talk about it.

Marohn hosted a lecture on the subject at the Jefferson Educational Society's Global Summit on Monday night. On Tuesday, he held a workshop for local housing organizations.

Marohn wrote a book called "Escaping the Housing Trap". The trap, in his view, is the tension between housing as a financial product, tied to the economy and housing a shelter which is too expensive for many.

He says cities need more housing with entry level price points.

Marohn said while Erie neighborhoods have decayed, they have great bones. He believes they can bounce back.
