U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders Visits Erie High School, Endorses Kamala Harris at Rally
Over 450 supporters filled up the Erie High School gymnasium, cheering and listening to Independent Vermont U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.
"[I'm a] big Bernie Sanders supporter," said rallygoer Cole Schenley. "[I] supported him in 2016, supported him in 2020."
The push continues for voters in Erie County and across the country, deciding who will be 47th President of the United States after the Nov. 5 election.
Erie News Now had a one-on-one interview with Sanders, who was visiting Erie to promote his choice for President number 47: Vice President Kamala Harris.
"I think she's working hard. I think she's saying the right things," Sanders said. "But I think we've got to continue to focus on economic issues."
Speakers such as Democratic U.S. Congressman candidate Preston Nouri and Democratic State Senate candidate Jim Wertz took the stage ahead of Sanders, addressing the bellwether county audience.
"We've seen Reverend Jesse Jackson come in here, Representative Ayanna Pressley," Nouri said. "Then to have Senator Sanders here, I really just think Erie is getting the love it really deserves."
Sanders made remarks on wealth inequality, higher taxes for the wealthy, along with providing examples of republicans not supporting former President Donald Trump.
"Mike Pence knows Donald Trump. He is not supporting Donald Trump," Sanders said. "They understand that he is a pathological liar. He lies all of the time."
For rallygoer William Dear, this election is personal.
"I worry about my daughters," Dear said. "I worry about it tremendously, especially the selection here, because of the abortion rights and the abortion issues that are out there."
