With the Election just days away, staff at the Voter Registration Office are busy fielding questions and handling mail in ballot concerns.
This comes after days of long lines with people voting early or trying to resolve mail in ballot issues.
It was much quieter outside of the Voter Registration Office on Wednesday, people only having to wait minutes as opposed to hours.
Now that early voting has ended and people can no longer apply for a mail-in ballot, staff handled questions about mail in ballot issues, like if someone requested one or never received it. They also helped people fill out emergency ballots if someone came up and they no longer vote on election day.
As Tonia Ferdnandez, the Director of Elections explained, "So anyone who was not aware that they had to be out of town for a business meeting or an unplanned vacation, some one who got hospitalized, so we have an emergency ballot application."
Fernandez said they believe they have broken records when it comes to early voting. "We are not breaking records as far as the mail in ballot requests. In the last presidential election in 2020 we gave out 55,000 so we are around 42,000-43,000 mark right now but we are breaking records as far as people coming into the office to vote."
The Voter Registration Office have extended their hours until 6:00 p.m. all this week and will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for anyone to drop off their mail in ballot, or get a new one if they didn't receive it, or to fill out an emergency ballot.
