The Pa. State U.S. Bowling Congress (USBC) Open Championships has been awarded the Champions of Economic Impact by Sports Destination Management, a leading national sports tourism publication.

According to the Erie Sports Commission, the recognition highlights the significant economic contributions made by the tournament, which ran for 10 weeks April 6 though June 9 at Eastway Lanes and Eastland Bowl.

This year, participation increased by 16 percent compared to the last event held in Erie in 2019. The Sports Commissions says the tournament attracted over 5,000 athletes, and generated an estimated economic impact of more than $2 million.

“We are incredibly proud to see the PA State USBC Open Championships recognized as a Champion of Economic Impact,” said Brett Rearick, president of Northwestern PA USBC. “This award underscores the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. This tournament truly exemplifies how sports can bring people together and drive growth. We look forward to building on this success in the future.”

The Erie Sports Commission said the organization is proud to have nominated the PA State USBC US Open Championships for this award and celebrated this achievement with all participants, volunteers and organizers who made it possible.
