A wildfire broke out on Hemlock Drive in Glade Township at approximately 1:30PM Sunday November 3rd, spreading quickly and putting a nearby home in immediate danger.
According to Glade Township Volunteer Fire Chief Dave English, flames reached up to 20 feet, with smoke visible across the region as strong winds pushed the blaze uphill.
Eleven agencies responded, including volunteer fire departments from Sheffield, Pleasant, Spring Creek, Glade Township, Clarendon, Wrightsville, and the City of Warren Fire Department along with the United States Forest Service, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), and EmergyCare.
Firefighters managed to protect the endangered home, but one firefighter from Sheffield sustained a wrist injury during the operation.
Crews have been cutting down trees to establish firebreaks in an attempt to slow the fire’s spread. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is now overseeing efforts on-site, with the cause of the fire still under investigation.
As the fire remains active, officials urge residents to stay vigilant. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
