A wildfire that erupted Sunday, November 3rd in Glade Township has scorched nearly 22 acres, with multiple agencies working to contain it.
Firefighters from 11 different departments responded to the blaze, including Sheffield, Pleasant, Spring Creek, Glade Township, Clarendon, Wrightsville, and the City of Warren Fire Departments in addition to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and U.S. Forest Service fighter fighters.
According to DCNR Fire Forester Jay Lindemuth, the fire jumped the line overnight, prompting crews to return to the scene. “We have resources out there today that are mopping up, as we call it, dropping trees that are on fire that could blow embers out as these winds increase,” Lindemuth said.
Assistant District Forester Scott Rimpa from the DCNR, confirmed that while the fire is now fully contained, some interior hotspots remain active. “At this point, the fire is 100% contained. We still do have some interior smoke, and the public is likely to notice that throughout the day, but it is nowhere near the containment lines,” Impact noted.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid burning leaves and debris until the region experiences a few days of rain and increased humidity, as dry conditions and high winds continue to pose a fire risk.
"Conditions are still very dry in our region," stated Lindemuth. "Our area has been declared a level 4 - High Fire Risk, so we are advising everyone to refrain from burning anything until the humidity levels rise and we get a few good days of really soaking rain."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
