Emma Perritano goes on walks with her dad, Dan Perritano, all over the country. Emma has cerebral palsy, and she has a customized wheelchair for long-distance walks. It's bright purple, and the side is decorated with stickers from all the places she's been. The next place Dan and Emma are headed to is Florida.
"I’ve been in the Keys once before and we’re really excited to do this walk for a lot of reasons. We get to be together. Right, Emma? We’ll spend 10 or 11 days walking and great weather that's the next bonus for us. It's just exciting to get out and see different areas and to meet new people. We've kind of figured out the routine on these walks now,” Dan Perritano said.
These walks are both for fun and for a purpose. For their Florida trip, they'll be helping an organization local to Key West called Marc House, which provides services for people with disabilities.
"It’s an organization with a mission similar to Erie Homes for Erie residents. We’re excited to walk for an organization locally (in Florida). We haven’t met the people from MARC, but they do have some ties here in Northwest Pennsylvania," Perritano said.
They'll walk 130 miles on this trip, and Perritano said they're ready to get their journey started.
“It’s fun and again we look forward to our walks. We're excited for this. So we do have a bit of driving, of course, but we're really excited to get on the road,” Perritano said.
