Annual Veteran's Day Parade Draws Crowds

The brave men and women who served our country will be honored on Monday with Veteran's Day observances.
But on Saturday morning, the annual Veteran's Day Parade was another way to thank those who served.

The event drew crowds of people to pay their respects and show their support to local veterans.
Melanie Henderson, a spectator said,  "I think that we owe everyone throughout time for our freedom and I think it's wonderful when we have people come out to support them because maybe they don't feel like when they are out of the country, maybe they don't feel like they are supported so we appreciate them for all they do."

The annual event also brought parents of veterans out, like Cheryl Adams who is thinking of her son, Lt. Colonel Matthew Frazier who recently retired.  "I think it really hit home when it was my son because it made me realize how much the family support meant, his wife, his daughters, who by the way, my granddaughter is serving in the Air Force right now. It meant a lot because it showed me when they went through with him going away and he was in Afghanistan and Iraq both.  And as a mom, I can tell you when the phone rings late at night you get a little nervous, but mostly you realize the sacrifices they made", said Adams.

Other parents, like Jerry Elliott used the parade as a lesson to his children. "They are able to come out and do things and just be able to enjoy their life based off the men and women who have done the things, they've done to give us our freedom to be able to enjoy every day like this", said Adams.

His daughter Isabella said she's been learning a lot about the sacrifices of veterans. "People that are helping the country all around the world", said Elliott.

Long time parade attendees, like Adams said it's great to see it grow from its start to where it is today. "I've been coming here when this first started and it was very small and no bands or anything and I almost always come to this area and I would be the only one down and now it feels good to see, I know there's a bigger crowd up there, but I like the little park and I like to come to this spot", said Adams.

Following the parade, a Jeep show and ceremony took place at the VA Medical Center and at Jefferson Elementary School.
