Three Fires Displace Local Families Across Erie
As the holidays approach three families are struggling to survive after their three separate house fires each in Erie County.
Facing an uncertain future, Adele Briggs-Johnson and her two children lost everything in a house fire in Erie.
Adele Briggs-Johnson said, "It’s almost been a month we have been in the hotel. There is no funding. Every resource I have reached out to—churches—there is nothing. This fire has cost me my job. All my accounts are overdrawn, and we are just trying to figure it out. The number one thing is just to maintain a roof or some kind of shelter over our heads."
A family in Wattsburg knows this sorrow all too well after they lost their home and pets almost a month ago.
Kayla Maxson said, "There are four kids, and it’s hard because we are not in the same town we were in. So, we still have to transport them to and from school. We did not want to take away the only thing the kids had, their friends at school."
The Maxson family experienced tragedy in pairs after realizing their stepbrother, the Dingles, also lost part of their house, not even a month apart.
Kayla Maxson said, "Stepdad lost everything. They did not have insurance either, same as us—they are in the same boat. We are all displaced. Not only did we lose our home, but they lost their three dogs, and we lost our 24 pets."
