Erie County Election Office Working through Last of Provisional Ballots

It will be another busy week at the Erie County Election Office as the last of the provisional ballots are evaluated for their validity.

The county's vote totals must be certified to the state Tuesday.

Investigating and counting provisional ballots is taking place under the supervision of the County Board of Elections, along with anyone making challenges, including party officials.

Provisional ballots are ruled out if a voter isn't registered, already cast a mail ballot, or failed to sign the ballot.

At a hearing last week, of some 800 challenges, only 101 ballots were ruled out.

Those missing dates were permitted to be counted since all were cast on Election Day.
