The Millcreek Police Department has identified the individual responsible for setting off firework-type explosives.

The police department was investigating reports of loud booms coming from the area of 17th Street near Filmore Avenue.

On Wednesday night, an anonymous person submitted a tip to MPD via the Tip411 system. Police followed up on the information and they were able to identify and speak with the responsible party.

According to the police department, the source of the explosions were firework-type explosives. No training exercises have been or are currently place, taking place, and the SWAT team was not conducting any activities at the Bel Air Hotel that could have cause these explosions.

The loud booms have been identified as mortar-style fireworks or explosives. Multiple witnesses, including Millcreek Police Offices on duty, reported seeing smoke in the air after the explosions, which were observed in the 1300 block of Seelinger Avenue.

If anyone sustained any property damage related to the explosions, they can report the incidents to the police department at 84-833-7777.
