As winter weather sets in, local EMS crews are gearing up for a rise in motor vehicle accidents caused by icy roads and reduced visibility.
According to responders, crashes become more frequent during the colder months as drivers face slick conditions and freezing temperatures.
“Typically, during the first snowfall of the year we see an increase in motor vehicle accidents,” Ken McCorrison, Warren County Department of Public Safety Director said. “This is a good time to remind everyone to make sure that they have their winter tires on and a snow brush in their vehicle, to be prepared when they drive in this weather.”
Local EMS teams have already winterized their vehicles, equipping them with snow tires and additional cold-weather gear. “Our emergency vehicles are ready for the weather," stated McCorrison. "A lot of our outlying area have ambulances with instant chains or four-wheel drive too, so they are prepared for the weather no matter when it arrives."
Officials also encourage drivers to keep an emergency kit on hand in their vehicles along with water and blankets, in case of any emergency situation.
