The Erie County Coroner has identified the man who was killed after crashing his SUV into a home in Millcreek.

He's identified as 38-year-old Robert Corbett of Millcreek.

Coroner Lyell Cook is waiting on toxicology test results before ruling an exact cause of death.

The fiery crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, inside of a home on the corner of Cherry Street and West Gore Road.

Millcreek Police arrived at the scene to find heavy flames and smoke pouring out of the home.

According to Millcreek Police Chief Carter Mook, Corbett hit the house at a high speed, drove through the living room, ended up in the kitchen, and his vehicle caught on fire.

Two people who live there and their dog got out unharmed.

"The homeowners are very fortunate that the staircase is situated in a way that the stair case emptied at the front of the house," said Chief Mook. "It allowed the occupants to get out and not have to try to fight through the flames, but it was certainly a tragic situation for all concerned."

Chief Mook says this isn't the first time a person has driven into the home.

"In the course of my 30 year career, I recall two fatal accidents at that location," said Chief Mook. "The house has been hit on at least one other occasion I can find on record."

According to Chief Mook, the intersection belongs to the city of Erie, so he is recommending an engineering study to be conducted to improve the safety of that area.
