Thanksgiving is over and the attention of many people is now focused on Christmas. Holiday decorations are popping up outside of a lot of homes. Inside too.
I'm taking a look at John Tebalt’s home in Harborcreek. As I walk inside, I immediately find myself in the living room. This room is filled with many varieties, styles, and models of Santa Claus. Santa is everywhere from floor to ceiling. John says there's 330 Santas in this room. His collection began over 30 years ago when his late wife bought a classic, hand-stitched Santa at Peek'n Peak.
"We just started collecting them and next thing you know I've got 330-something of them. I just enjoy putting them out,” says John.
There's a fiddling Santa. There's a Santa that’s reciting Twas The Night Before Christmas. There's a bike riding Santa...and a twerking Santa!
John's Santa display is intermingled with an impressive snowman collection and a wonderful Christmas Village that contains an amusement park and a ski slope. His living room is a big attraction to friends and neighbors.
"I enjoy showing it off,” he says. “Anybody that would come by I would say, 'Hey come on in and take a look.' I enjoy showing it off."
There's a football-themed Santa that dances. There's an Hawaiian Santa and an African-American Santa. There's Santa wood carvings and a Santa painted on an old ironing board.
"All the animation and all the hoopla is great too, but sometimes the simple things are the things that really strikes you,” says John.
330 Santas. Does John have a favorite? He says yes. It’s a sleeping, snoring Santa.
I don't know about you, but after seeing this giant Santa collection, I'm already in the Christmas spirit!
By the way, John's living room is decorated for every holiday season. After the Christmas decorations are put away, John will begin preparing for Valentine's Day, and then for Saint Patrick's Day.
