Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) sent a team of five to assist Erie International Airport with clearing snow from the airfield during the severe lake-effect snowstorm, according to the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

The team left Pittsburgh early Saturday morning to help Erie’s snow removal crews manage nearly 3 feet of snow, including a record-breaking 22.6 inches that fell Friday.

The Pittsburgh airport team has provided assistance to the Erie airport in past years when not dealing with its own weather challenges.

PIT's vice president of airport operations also traveled to Erie to oversee efforts.

Nearly all flights in and out of Erie International Airport Friday, Saturday and Sunday were cancelled due to the weather conditions.
