The Erie Downtown Partnership (EDP) has decided to postpone and move Downtown d'Lights to next Friday, December 13. The difficult decision was made after consulting with City officials, employees, event sponsors and the Board of Directors.
According to the EDP, a few factors made it impossible to hold this week. The main reason being how thin city services and safety ambassadors are stretched meeting the demands of clearing streets and sidewalks.
Additionally, many major event partners were unable to show up this Friday to continue decorating and setting up.
The EDP says postponing the event will give them time to clear parking spaces, line up shuttle assistance from the EMTA, open the skating rink, decorate the park and install the tree.
Dec. 13 is also Gallery Night at the Erie Art Museum. The two organizations are working together to encourage residents to come downtown that evening.
The Holiday Makers Market in the Boston Store will open once the park has been lit.
The EDP still plans on hosting a make-up Small Business Saturday market at the Boston Store, Art Museum, Ascend, and 1020 Collective this Saturday, December 7.
