An inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Albion was found unresponsive in his cell on December 1, 2024. Prison staff immediately responded and provided life saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived. 

The inmate, Nicholas Martin, was pronounced deceased at 8:47 p.m. on Sunday. 

Martin was serving a Life Sentence for First Degree Murder from Elk County. He had been at SCI Albion since February 27, 2024. 

In accordance with state policy, Pennsylvania State Police were notified. Police will be conducting an investigation. 

The official cause of death will be determined by the Erie County Coroner's Office.
