The City of Erie continues to operate under an Emergency Disaster Declaration.
The City says crews are working hard around the clock to plow the 4 feet of heavy, wet snow that blanketed the area.
The Erie Police Department (EPD) and tow trucks have been working to clear over 200 vehicles that have been blocking the intersections and streets. The city says this slows the progress of plows.
According to the City, there are still more than 40 vehicles that are preventing some streets from being cleared. This takes a lot of time because the tow and plow trucks are getting stuck as well.
The City says residents should continue following the odd/even parking regulations.
Additionally, as a result of the volume of snow, delay in equipment arrival, and abandoned cars still blocking the streets, trash and recycling pick-up (including large item pick-up) is suspended in the City of Erie until further notice.
Trash service is expected to start again on Sunday, pending additional significant weather.
The City is continuing to ask residents to shelter in place and avoid driving on the roads.
For life or death emergencies call 911. For non-emergency needs such as a non-function furnace, wellness checks, etc. contract 211.
Additionally, due to deteriorating weather conditions, Waste Management is shutting down operation of pickups in Harborcreek.
Millcreek Township also shared a trash update saying Waste Management has suspended operations for the day (Thursday, Dec. 5).
