Dealing with Homelessness During a Snowstorm
For most Erie County residents when lake effect snow hits, it is easy to go inside, stay warm, and wait for the snow to let up, but for the homeless population those are not always options.
Jennie Hagerty, executive director of the Mercy Center for Women, said since the snowstorm came on Friday life at the center has been hectic.
Typically, the recommendation is to call 814-Shelter, but Hagerty said almost all of the overflow shelters throughout the community are near or at full capacity.
While financial donations are great, she said the need for volunteers is a must.
