U.S. Marine Corp Delivers Toys to Patients at Shriners Children's
Shriners Children's Erie received a big delivery of toys for the kids treated in their clinic.
The toys were delivered by the U.S. Marine Corp. The Marine Corp works with Toys for Tots every year to complete their mission of making sure every child receives a toy, regardless of circumstances.
Marines and state troopers delivered two huge boxes of toys to Shriners. It's the second year in a row that Erie Shriners is among the local non-profit organizations receiving Toys for Tots support.
Therapists here used "play" while treating the children they treat - so this donation will last beyond Christmas.
"We are currently getting our toys for tots donation which fills us up with toys so we can provide toys to our patients throughout the year," said Michelle DeRooy, Child Life Specialist. "If they're getting a cast off we can provide them with a reward if they do a really good job. If they're having a birthday, if they're celebrating the end of a treatment we do all kinds of whatever they need."
Erie based Shriners is not an in-patient hospital, but it provides valuable pediatric specialty care for children facing orthopedic conditions.
