Pennsylvania State Police in Erie County will be cracking down on driving under the influence (DUI) over the New Year's holiday and weekend, according to a news release.

The Girard station plans to conduct sobriety checkpoints and use roving patrols in its Erie County patrol area between Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 to deter DUI. The Erie barracks also plans to do the same over the weekend of Jan. 3-5.

Troopers remind the public to designate a sober driver if you plan to drink alcohol.

They also warn some legal drugs including prescriptions can make it unsafe to drive.
