Christmas day has passed, but the post-holiday rush is in full-swing with more gift bags, returns and popular deals.

But while on the inside of the store, Millcreek Police say to make sure you keep an eye on your vehicle.

"A lot of people sometimes leave purses and stuff like on the passenger seat or something, and it's very easy for somebody to break into the car and get in," Cpl. Jacob Washek said.

Washek says Millcreek Police receive a handful of calls regarding vehicle break-ins and thefts this time of year.

"We would urge you guys to be a little more vigilant," Washek said. "Just make sure everybody's locking their vehicles when there are valuable things inside of it."

In just a few days, the bars will also be hopping for New Year's Eve celebrations, and local police will be busy too.

"Every year we have extra patrol out, looking specifically for DUIs, trying to keep the community safe as a whole," Washek said.

He added that it is easier now more than ever to make sure you are staying safe if planning to drink, which is why he recommends Uber and Lyft.

"Have a ride. Do not drive yourself. Call a friend [or] family [member]," Washek said. "There are so many other ways to get rides. Nowadays, there's not really an excuse to get a DUI."
