"We are fully staffed around the clock right now."

Jeff Gibbens, Bureau Chief for the City of Erie Streets Department, is already getting prepared for Wednesday morning, the time when the lake effect snow is expected to make its way into the region.

"We put our crews on our emergency schedule of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., starting [Wednesday] morning," Gibbens said. "Let's just pray, mother nature just takes a break on us."

Now, local municipalities and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) are buckling in for the long haul.

"This is one of those storms that's going to change over time, so that plays into our planning process," said Jill Harry, Press Officer for PennDOT.

Harry has already been to plenty of meetings to come up with a gameplan ahead of the next few days.

"Even if that need pops up on a holiday, like it could potentially tomorrow, we're already ready to go," Harry said.

PennDOT is planning to shift its focus towards Erie County with plow trucks.

Starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday, a planned Tier-1 Vehicle Restriction will be implemented I-90 and I-86, which includes empty tractor trailers.

"We're asking you to slow down 45 miles an hour," Harry said.

The 511PA map is a recommended tool to keep up-to-date with road closures and restrictions.
