An autopsy Sunday on the victim of a deadly shooting just as Erie rang in the New Year confirms the death as a case of homicide.

As we've reported, a 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were shot just after 12:30 a.m. on New Year's Day as they left a party at a home in the 900 block of West 19th Street, near Cascade.

Coroner Lyell Cook has ruled the death of 20-year-old Jalea Turner a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the head.

That ruling came after Sunday's autopsy by forensic pathologist Dr. Todd Luckasevic. His examination was delayed by severe weather.

The second shooting victim was released after treatment for a leg wound.

Erie detectives are still working the case. They have not yet made an arrest in the first homicide of the year.
