Continued work along the Bayfront Parkway will require the closure of a portion of the waterfront side of State Street in the City of Erie.

Starting Tuesday, January 7, work will start on installing underground utility conduits under the parkway.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said State Street will be closed between the intersection with the Bayfront Parkway and the intersection with West Front Street Extension on the waterfront side. 

Drivers can continue to access all businesses on the waterfront side of State Street by using Sassafras Street Extension or Holland St. and West Front St. Extension. 

The utility relocation is a necessary step prior to the reconstruction of State St. as a grade-separated intersection.
