U.S. Rep Mike Kelly
Legislation to rename the Titusville U.S. Post Office building after the father of the American oil industry, Edwin Drake, was signed into law by President Biden on Saturday, January 4.
The legislation passed the U.S. House of Representatives in June 2024 and passed the U.S. Senate in December 2024.
The bill, H.R. 7417, officially renames the facility of the U.S. Postal Service located at 135 W. Spring Street. The facility will now be called the Edwin L. Drake Post Office Building.
In 1859, Drake became the first person to use an iron pipe to drill for oil.
