An HVAC problem at the State Correctional Institution at Albion caused the heat to be out for much of the day on Monday.

Information officer Carla Messenger confirmed that the heat went out at SCI Albion at 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The outage impacted the entire facility.

HVAC crews worked to make repairs to the system throughout the day.  The heat was turned back on at midnight.

Maintenance crews kept watch until about 2:00 a.m. Tuesday to make sure the heat remained on.

Messenger said portable heaters were brought in during the outage, but that they weren't needed in the housing units, as the heat held there during the more than 12 hour outage.
