Flights to Tampa Begin, More Might be Coming
For the second time in two months, Erie is getting new flights to Florida. These are nonstop to Tampa.
The first one takes off Wednesday evening. They're twice a week through Breeze Airways. They'll run through the winter.
Breeze is the same airline that started the Orlando flights in the fall.
Derek Martin, the airport’s director, said those have been doing well. Many of them have been nearly full.
That's why they added the flights to Tampa.
Airport officials are in talks with several airlines about bringing more flights to Erie. They’re working to resume American Airlines flights to Chicago.
“They (American) did it in June 2019 before the pandemic,” Martin said.
“They were liking what they saw but the global pandemic hit.”
If the Tampa flights are successful, they might resume earlier next season, Martin said.
There’s also the potential of a third Breeze flight to Florida out of Erie. That would be to Fort Myers.
