The Jefferson DeFrees Family Center in Warren, PA is set to host its annual Storybook Breakfast on Saturday, January 11, at 9:00AM.
Tickets are still available for the event, which supports the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program.
Now in its sixth year, the Storybook Breakfast raises funds for the literacy initiative, which provides one free book per month to children from birth to age five.
The books are mailed directly to each registered child's home at no cost to the family. However, the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center covers the cost of purchasing and mailing the books, relying on fundraisers like this one to keep the program going.
"We're mailing anywhere between 850 to 875 books each month, and then we get the invoice for that to keep the books free to the kids in Warren County," explained Jennifer Madigan, Childcare Director for Jefferson Defrees. "So, events like this help keep those books coming to mailboxes for children in the county and those children are our future."
This year’s theme is Dr. Seuss, and the breakfast will feature appearances by beloved storybook characters, a basket giveaway, and photo opportunities.
Parents can also connect with local organizations, including the Warren County Kiwanis Club, which will be on hand with community resources.
