Erie Native and Los Angeles Resident Speaks Out About Ongoing Catastrophe
Relentless wildfires continue to sweep across California, devastating communities and forcing thousands to flee their homes. Anna Kristina, an Erie native and one of those forced to evacuate, shared how the experience has completely changed her life.
“Growing up in Erie, I was used to harsh snowstorms and the occasional tornado, but nothing like these wildfires,” Anna said.
Anna feels incredibly lucky that everyone she knows is safe for now, though two of her close friends have lost their homes, and many others are just miles away from the fires. “I decided to leave LA and finish the semester online,” she explained.
Upon realizing the extent of the fires, Anna evacuated immediately. The fashion school she attends in LA, FIDM, has already postponed the school’s return by a month.
“It’s been heartbreaking. Two of my very close friends have been directly impacted by the fires,” Anna shared. “It’s been really tough.” While Anna is no longer in Los Angeles, many people she knows are still in the path of the flames. She holds onto hope for their safety as the fires continue to threaten communities.
“I’m just hoping and praying for the best for all my friends down there,” she said.
