Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has reduced the speed limit on the interstates in northwestern Pennsylvania due to the winter weather.

The 45-mph speed restriction is now in place for the following roadways:

  • Interstate 79 from I-80 interchange to the ending point in the City of Erie
  • Interstate 80 from the Ohio state line to Exit 45 (Route 478, St. Petersburg/Emlenton)
  • Interstate 86 from the New York state line to the I-90 interchange
  • Interstate 90 from the Ohio state line to the New York state line

While the speed restriction is in place, commercial vehicles are limited to travel in the right lane only.

Although PennDOT crews are treating roadways, its goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.
