The consistent cold might not feel the best to some, but it's great for people who can finally go ice fishing again.

It's been years since Presque Isle Bay was frozen.

Ice fishers have been on the bay and other bodies of water across the area. One of the popular spots is Misery Bay at Presque Isle State Park. Despite the name, people there Monday were not miserable. They were happy to be out on the ice.

“John Stehlin’s been telling me the ice has been 4-and-a-half to 5 inches thick,” said John Lapek, an ice fisher from the area. “So we figured we’d come down after the weekend rush,” he said.

Jerry Skrypzak, the president of the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie, said no ice is safe ice. But there are things you can do to limit risk.

He recommends wearing a lifejacket and carrying spikes which can be used to pull yourself above ice.
