Erie Mayor Joe Schember Launches Re-Election Campaign
Erie Mayor Joe Schember has announced that he is running for re-election.
Mayor Schember posted the following statement on social media to mark his announcement:
“Greetings, fellow Erie residents! Today, I am announcing my run for re-election this year to complete the great successes we have achieved together throughout the last 7 years.
Under my leadership, and thanks to my incredible team, the city has NOT had any tax increases for 6 years running, both crime and unemployment are down, we have pursued and been awarded a RECORD Amount of $120M in grant funding, achieved a state CRIZ designation, reduced blight, successfully invested and allocated $76M in COVID relief funding throughout our community, increased the City’s revolving loans funds from $6M to $25M, taken care of aging infrastructure, incentivized over $373M in residential and commercial investment through the LERTA program, helped to add nearly 400 more employers since 2017 and 2,300 jobs since 2021, and achieved a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index.
As good as these successes are, there is still much work to accomplish. In the next four years, my team and I will continue to work on initiatives to increase jobs, develop more quality housing, reduce the City’s debt and structural deficit, and decrease crime.
It has been my honor to serve you, and now, I ask for your vote one final time to keep the momentum going and finish the work we have started: Jobs are up, crime is down, and city taxes have not increased in the last six years. If you would like to donate or volunteer for the campaign, please visit joeschember.com. Thank you so much for your time. I look forward to continuing to work together to Build Opportunity, Restore Hope, and Transform Erie!”
Mayor Schember will be competing against Daria Devlin. Devlin currently serves as Director of Social Impact at the Hamot Health Foundation.
Devlin is seeking the Democratic nomination for mayor in the 2025 primary election set for May 20.
