Erie County Department of Health Confirms 3 Additional Measles Cases
The Erie County Department of Health (ECDH) is doing its part to slow down a measles outbreak in Erie County.
The health department confirms that there have been a total of eight cases reported in Erie County, after three additional cases were reported in the past week.
Those cases include two adults and six children.
On Tuesday, the ECDH hosted a measles vaccination clinic at the Zem Zem Shrine Club in Millcreek.
According to the department, the recent cases were identified as direct exposures to a child who tested positive on March 30.
Due to contact tracing and quarantine measures, the department does not believe there is a high risk of community spread.
The ECDH encourages adults and children over the age of one to get a vaccination.
"The vaccine is really important," said ECDH Director Erin Mrenak. "It's very safe. It's very effective. It can prevent your likelihood of getting measles by 97 percent, so it's a really safe and effective one that's been around since the 60s."
Mrenak says 60 people signed up to receive a vaccination on Tuesday.
