Erie Democratic Primary City Council Race Compared to Mayoral Race
In the city of Erie during Tuesday night's Democratic primary elections in the City Council and Mayoral races, voters had a clear priority on which race they felt compelled to vote in as three times the amount of voters voted in the City Council races compared to the Mayoral race.
Andre Horton was the leading vote-getter, not only in his race for City Council but for all Democrats in the city.
He thinks a lack of interest in the mayor's race and the amount of "great candidates" in the City Council race may have caused the discrepancy.
Jasmine Flores was the second highest vote-getter receiving over 6,000 votes and believes the closed primary system may have played a part in the numbers.
Dr. Joe Morris, Erie News Now political contributor, described the gap between the races as the result of the individual candidates getting their constituents out to the polls to support them.
