Millcreek police are leading the investigation into a missing person mystery after a local man who said he was heading to Kent, Ohio on Friday to visit a girlfriend, never arrived.

Compounding the mystery is the fact that the man's car was found parked at Lampe Marina in Erie along the Lake Erie waterfront. Authorities were able to locate his car because of a ping from his cell phone in that area.

The missing person is Rabin Subedi, 21 of Millcreek.  According to his uncle, Nandu Subedi, he is a junior engineering student at Penn State Behrend, who lives in Millcreek with his family. However, Penn State Behrend officials say their records show Subedi has not been enrolled there since 2019.

Both Millcreek police and family say Rabin was last seen Friday evening in Erie.  His uncle tells us it was at a hair salon called Culture Cut on West 26th Street. After that the uncle says he texted his girlfriend that he was departing for Ohio around 6:45 p.m.

Subedi's car, a white Ford Mustang convertible was located Saturday afternoon parked at Lampe Marina, that's off the Port Access Road near the South Pier.

Security camera footage from near the South Pier shows the car driving around the marina area, and parking around 10 p.m. Friday.  Footage shows someone exiting the car and heading toward - and ultimately into - the water. However, the video footage is not clear enough to identify the person.

The discovery of the car set off a search along and in the water Saturday night and Sunday involving Erie Police, West Lake Water Rescue, and the U.S. Coast Guard.  A Coast Guard helicopter was also seen circling the area.

According to Millcreek and Erie police officials choppy waters on the lake brought an end to the search Sunday afternoon.

Weather conditions Monday are preventing the search from continuing; however, conditions are expected to allow the search to resume Tuesday.

Millcreek police have custody of the car and for now are continuing to investigate this as a missing person case, though they have not ruled anything out. The family of Rabin Subedi has agreed to let police access his vehicle's GPS system to see where the car traveled before ending up at Lampe Marina.
