The Millcreek Mall Ends Lawsuit Against Gov. Wolf
The feud is over between the owners of the Millcreek Mall and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf. Cafaro Co. has dropped its June 2020 coronavirus shutdown lawsuit against the Wolf administration.
"Essentially that lawsuit was initiated in June of last year; it was filed because the state was not treating shopping malls as equitably as every retail outlet in the state,” said Joe Bell, Spokesperson of Millcreek Mall, on Monday.
Malls across Pennsylvania were allowed to fully open as of June 26, 2020 as long as CDC guidelines were followed. Joe Bell told Erie News Now that since statewide restrictions have loosened the lawsuit isn't necessary, at least for now.
"We always reserve the right to re-file it should something unforeseen happen," said Joe Bell.
Vaccination rollout plays a big role in loosened coronavirus restrictions in Pennsylvania. In fact, 16% of Erie County residents are fully vaccinated. Right now, most stores at the Millcreek Mall are up and running as life slowly returns back to normal. Retail corporations expect that most people are going to start spending their savings and doing a little retail therapy to make up for lost times, they're calling it retail revenge shopping.
We asked shoppers if they’ve participated in this yet.
"I’m a firm believer in retail therapy. So is that revenge retail? Probably a little bit more," said Christy Krakowski, shopper.
"Now if I come across some money yeah I might do some revenge shopping,” said Paula Markley, shopper.
The Millcreek Mall is expected to experience a massive rush in shoppers in upcoming months as we slowly make our way out of this pandemic.
