The 9/11 Chief Forensic Anthropologist recalls what happened that day
We sat down with Dennis Dirkmaat, the chair of forensic sciences at Mercyhurst University.
Who's well known for being one of the First Forensic anthropologists at the scene in Shanksville September 11.
Dirkmaat is an internationally known expert in the recovery of human remains from outdoor sites. And he was called to the field in Somerset county where United Airlines flight 93 crashed.
He was the Chief Forensic Anthropoligist at the scene, charged with the grim task of gathering and identifying the fragmented remains of 44 men and women.
Many Anthropologists still use his protocols today.
